Beginner's Mind
Only come to know the nature of your own mind, in which there is no self and no other, and you will in fact be a Buddha.
-Huang Po
The work functions as a metaphor for acceptance and recognition of our true nature, beyond gender or cultural narratives. I choose the language of abstraction to challenge the viewer to move past his or her natural inclination to recognize and name the forms within the painting and experience its essence, in much the same way that a Buddhist master teaches us to see what is.
